SCANLON NAMED BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GophersJunior Matt Scanlon was named Big Ten Player of the Week Monday after his performance last week against Northern Iowa and Michigan. The Golden Gophers finished the week 3-2 and is 27-9 overall on the season. Minnesota is in second place in the Big Ten with a 9-3 record, two games behind Ohio State.

The Richfield, Minn., native batted .400 (10-25) with 16 RBIs, seven runs scored, three doubles and two home runs. In the Golden Gophers' doubleheader split with Michigan on Saturday, Scanlon was 4-for-9 with two three-run home runs and 11 RBIs. In a 13-12 loss, Scanlon collected a career-high six RBIs, including a three-run home run. In Minnesota's 15-14 win in the nightcap, Scanlon added five more RBIs including a game-tying, three-run home run and the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh and final inning.

Scanlon is batting .347 on the year and ranks first in the Big Ten with 19 doubles and is tied for first with teammate Robb Quinlan with 48 RBIs. He is the third Gopher in the last four weeks to earn the honor.

Minnesota hosts Minnesota State, Mankato on Wednesday at Siebert Field at 3 p.m., before traveling to Indiana for a four-game series with the Hoosiers this weekend.
