GOLDEN GOPHERS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER FROM ILLINI

In game one, Minnesota starter Brad Pautz took a no- hitter and a 2-0 lead into the seventh and final inning, before surrendering a single by Chris Basak and a game-tying homer by D.J. Svihlik. Minnesota failed to score in the bottom of the seventh and Pautz retired the side in the top of the eighth. Robb Quinlan hit an infield single to lead off the bottom of the eighth. He was advanced to second on an infield out. Illinois intentionally walked Jason Kennedy to set up the double play. Mike Arlt reached on an error to load the bases for Matt Brosseau, who hit his second RBI single of the game to give Minnesota the win. Pautz raised his record to 7-2, by giving up two hits and striking out five.
In game two, Minnesota jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings on Scott Howard's two-RBI double in the second and Kennedy's RBI double in the third inning. Illinois answered with two runs in the fourth on a two-run homer by T.J. Jackson. Minnesota responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI double by Matt Scanlon and another RBI double by Kennedy. Dan McGrath raised his record to 4-0 by pitching four innings and giving up two runs, one earned on five hits. Vince Gangl notched his third save of the year pitching three innings and giving up one hit and striking out three. The series concludes tomorrow at 1 p.m.
