GOPHER WOMEN FOURTH AT IOWA TWILIGHT INVITATIONAL

poMinnesota left several of its top performers at home but still managed four individual wins and a fourth-place finish at the Iowa Twilight Invitational Saturday night.

The Gophers tallied 142.5 points in a meet won by Western Michigan with 165 points. Marquette was second at 164.5 and Iowa was third with 146 points.

Minnesota got 1-2 finishes in the discus and hammer throws. Brenda Meyer set a personal-best with a throw of 159 feet, five inches, to win the disucs and added a seconds in the hammer, 154-9, and shot put, 42-9 _.

Angie Hill won the hammer with an effort of 162-1 and Jenney Luer was second in the disucs with a throw of 151-4. Apasha Blocker added a third in the javelin, 117-1, and a fourth in the shot put, 40-5, as the throwers accounted for 50 points in four events.

Rasa Michniovaite picked up a win for the Gophers by cruising to victory in the 800-meter run. Her season-best time of two mintues, 9.56 was good for an eight-second victory and Yvette White nearly equaled her three-year old personal best, winning the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.16.
