goThe No. 6 Penn State women's basketball team lived up to its ranking in defeating Minnesota, 82-30, at the Sports Pavilion on Monday.

The Lady Lions (13-2, 4-0) held the Gophers without a field goal in the final 8 minutes, 38 seconds of the first half, while rattling off a 21-1 run, to turn a 18-14 lead into a huge 39-15 advantage at the half.

Minnesota (7-7, 1-3) followed a 22 percent shooting performance in the first half with a 25 percent outing in the second to tally only 30 in the ballgame, the lowest number of points scored by a Gopher team in the NCAA era. The previous record with 37 points, in a 75-37 loss to Purdue on January 8, 1996.

Penn State finished with three players in double figures, led by preseason Big Ten Player of the Year honoree, center Andrea Garner with 22 points on 10-12 from the field.

The Gophers, who turned the ball over 35 time, five more turnovers than points, were led by guard Brandi Harris' season-high 10 points.

Minnesota plays its next two games on the road, at Iowa on Thursday, Jan. 13 and at Purdue on Sunday, Jan. 16.
