GOPHER SWIMMERS AND DIVERS COMPLETE ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON

3The Minnesota women's swimming and diving team finished 23rd at the 2000 NCAA Championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Gophers scored 43 points with six athletes, an increase over the 34 points with eight athletes in 1999. Minnesota also improved upon its tie for 24th at the 1999 NCAA meet.

CHRISTOFERSON EARNS ALL-AMERICA AWARD - Katy Christoferson (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) won Minnesota's lone All-America mention at the 2000 NCAA Championships. She qualfied eighth in the 400-meter individual medley in 4:43.52 and finished eighth in the final in 4:44.56. Christoferson, the two-time Big Ten champion, scored her first-ever points individually in the NCAA meet. With her participation on Minnesota's scoring relays, she has earned seven honorable mention All-America awards as part of Gopher relays in her career.

OTHER INDIVIDUALS - Senior Terri Jashinsky (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) won her second consecutive All-America honorable mention in the 100 butterfly, finishing 15th. She also swam on all three of Minnesota's scoring relays, giving her 10 such awards on Gopher relays and 12 total awards in her career.

Senior Kelsey Hegener (Cologne, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) won her first-ever All-America honorable mentions in Indianapolis. She finished 13th in the 100 breaststroke and swam the breaststroke leg on Minnesota's 200 medley relay, which finished tied for 11th. Hegener almost scored in the 200 breaststroke, missing the consolation final by .02 of a second.

Junior Tracy LaVoi (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) scored Minnesota's first point in an NCAA diving event since 1997. She placed 16th in the 1 meter diving event, scoring 391.85 points. LaVoi joins Katy Christoferson and sophomore Jinny Smedstad (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) as the returning scorers for Minnesota in the 2000-2001 season.

GOPHER SCORERS - Following is a list of every Minnesota scorer at the 2000 NCAA Championships. All events were contested in short-couse meters, with the trial time followed by the final time.
