MEN'S GOLF TEAM RECEIVES NCAA REGIONAL BID

SouthwesThe University of Minnesota men's golf team has received a bid to participate in the NCAA Central Regional at Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas, from May 18-20. The regional, hosted by Southwest Texas State University, is one of three sites that will determine the participants for the 2000 NCAA Men's Golf Championships at the Grand National Golf Complex hosted by Auburn University in Opelika, Ala.

Minnesota is one of 27 teams in the regional competing for 10 spots in the NCAA Championships. The Golden Gophers won last season's NCAA Central Regional at Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

The field for the regional is highlighted by third- ranked Oklahoma State, seventh-ranked Northwestern, and 10-ranked Houston. A total of 11 of the 27 squads in the event are rated in the top 50 in the nation in the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. The Golden Gophers are listed 45th on the MasterCard list.
