MINNESOTA MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING COMPETES IN ALUMNI MEET

SmolinsThe University of Minnesota swimming and diving team hosted its annual Alumni Meet Friday night at the Aquatic Center.
Junior All-American Todd Smolinski won the 100 yard freestyle in 46.08 and teamed with Jeff Hackler, Matt Taylor</ a> and Allen Ong to win the 200- yard medley relay. Ong also won the 50-yard backstroke in 24.73, while Hackler claimed the 50-yard breaststroke in 25.94.
Other event champions for the Golden Gophers included Sean McCaffrey in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.66), Mike Melrose in the 100-yard back (52.56), Dustin Chalfant in the 100 breast (57.91) and Ben Bartell in the 100 IM (52.46).
The Gophers will next be in action Nov. 2 when they host North Carolina and North Dakota in dual action at the Aquatic Center at 6 p.m.
