SOFTBALL LOSES FIRST, TIES SECOND IN DOUBLEHEADER AT NORTH CAROLINA

In the first game, North Carolina scored the game's only run in the bottom of the first inning on an unearned run. Piper Marten was credited with the loss despite giving up only two hits in the game. Minnesota recorded six hits, led by Tammi Hays, who went 2-for-3.
In the second game, the Gophers (6-2-1) scored in the top of the sixth inning when Hailee Nanchy drove in Amy Hafemeyer on a single. Minnesota held the lead until the bottom of the seventh, when North Carolina's Dionne Streete doubled with two outs and scored on an error to tie the game. The game was then called due to darkness with a runner on first base. Each team had five hits at the time the game ended.
The Gophers will begin play in the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday. Minnesota will face Temple at noon and Ohio at 2 p.m.
