BASEBALL LOSES 6-5; GETS SWEPT BY OREGON STATE

The Golden Gopher baseball team lost its third game in a row Sunday by a score of 5-6, falling to 9-10 on the year. The Beavers from Oregon State improved to 16-9 with the weekend sweep of the Golden Gophers. Minnesota jumped ahead early with three runs in the third inning, thanks to two errors by Beaver first baseman Andy Jarvis; but the Golden Gophers committed two errors of their own in the bottom of the fifth, and helped Oregon State rally for five runs in the inning. OSU would muscle one more run in the sixth to take a three run advantage. Minnesota got back in the game in the eighth on a two-run pinch-hit double by senior Kurt Haring, but that would be all they could gather, as junior Chris Guetzlaff< /a> was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a single by sophomore Luke Appert. C.J. Woodorw retired 13 of his first 14 batters, before allowing four consecutive hits in the fifth and giving up the six Beaver runs. Woodorw falls to 2-3 on the year. Minnesota travels to West Lafayette next weekend to open up Big Ten play with Purdue. That series will be the start of a 10-game road trip for the Golden Gophers.
