MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team closed out game two in a pair of mid-week matchups against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tonight, taking down the Panthers 6-2 at U.S. Bank Stadium on Wednesday.

Caden Capomaccio picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minnesota, slinging 2.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out four. Brandon Jaenke also made an impact on the mound for the Gophers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits. Easton Richter led Minnesota from the plate, hitting 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single off the bat from Richter to drive in Jack Bello.

The Panthers then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Gophers got back on the board in the fourth. Minnesota scored three runs in the frame, tallied on a two RBI double from Richter and sacrifice fly from Weber Neels to give the Gophers a 4-2 lead.

Minnesota kept Milwaukee without a run before expanding their lead to 6-2 in the following inning. The Gophers added two runs in the frame with Davis Hamilton scoring on an error by the second baseman in a fielder's choice situation, and with another RBI double down the left field line from Richter. The score remained 6-2 for the rest of the game, as Minnesota coasted to the win.
