GRUENING, JOHNSON EARN PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA HONORS

honorJunior punter Preston Gruening and senior wide receiver Ron Johnson earned preseason All-America honors from Football News and Street & Smith. Football News named Gruening a member of the first team and Johnson the second team. Gruening was also honored as a preseason All-American by Street & Smith. It is the fourth consecutive season that Minnesota has had a member of its football team earn preseason national praise. Ben Hamilton and Karon Riley were both chosen as early-season standouts in 2000.

Gruening, Johnson and the rest of the Golden Gophers kickoff the 2001 schedule at Toledo on Aug. 30. The first home game will be on Sept. 8 against UL Lafayette. For ticket information, please call (612) 624-8080 or 1-800-UGOPHER (1-800-846-7437).
