GERDING WINS GOLD MEDAL AT WORLD UNIVERSITY GAMES

GameFormer University of Minnesota track athlete Tom Gerding was part of the United States 4x400 relay that won the gold medal at the World University Games, Saturday in Beijing, China.

Gerding teamed with Brandon Couts, Andrew Pierce and Geno Wright to run a 3:02.83 narrowly defeating Ukraine (3:02.87).

Gerding was a four-time All-American and Minnesota's first in a sprint event. The native of Waconia, Minn., garnered All-American accolades in the 400- meter dash at both the 2000 and 2001 Outdoor National Championships, along with running on the Golden Gopher 4x400 relay team that placed eighth indoors and fifth outdoors last season.
