Associate Head Coach coached multiple Big Ten champions across multiple genders in 2026.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota Associate Head Coach Peter Miller was named the Midwest Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year by the USTFCCCA on Thursday.
For Miller, the regional honor is the 10th of his career in his 13th season at Minnesota. Miller mentored Anthonett Nabwe and Hadley Streit to First Team All-American status at the recent NCAA Outdoor Championships. Miller also coached Angelos Mantzouranis, Anthony Barmes and Pavlos Tzamtzis to All-America finishes on the men's side, including an NCAA Championship in the men's hammer throw.
Miller led Minnesota's throws unit to its second men's hammer throw national title in a row - becoming the first program since 2012-13 (Virginia Tech) to go back-to-back in the hammer. Mantzouranis won his first NCAA championship in the hammer throw with a fifth-round throw of 75.78m (248-7). The men's hammer competition was a back-and-forth affair with Mantzouranis having to retake the top position three times. After his opening round foul, Mantzouranis progressed through his series with four straight improvements that ended with his 75.78m (248-7) winning mark.
At the Big Ten Championships this year Miller's crew combined to score 36 hammer throw points between the men's and women's team in Lincoln, Neb. Mantzouranis and Nabwe also completed Minnesota's third-straight hammer throw sweep at the Big Ten Championships. Nabwe then captured two other medals during Big Tens, adding a silver in the shot put and a bronze in the discus for a total of 24 team points from the Liberian. This season Miller has also mentored Anthonett Nabwe to a program record four-straight 'The Bowerman' Watch Lists after the Liberian tossed the second-best throw in NCAA history (77.64m | 254-9) at the 116th Drake Relays back in April. On the men's side Mantzouranis' lifetime best of 78.61m (257-10) from 2025 still sits at No. 4 all-time at the NCAA level.
Additionally Miller had three other First Team All-Americans across the men's and women's programs as well as a fifth All-American, Tzamtzis, who earned the Honorable Mention All-American distinction. In the shot put Miller also led Nabwe to a NCAA Championships final appearance in the shot put, finishing ninth overall with a final mark of 17.40m (57-1) at Hayward Field.
