Marten opened the tournament throwing Minnesota's eighth no-hitter in school history, while tying a school-mark with 15 strikeouts, in the 2-0 victory over the Terriers. The last no-hitter was Recknor's perfect game on March 25, 2000 versus Akron.
Junior Veronica Roberts hit a triple with one out in the second inning. With two outs Anne Thul walked. Minnesota then executed a perfect double steal attempt, allowing Roberts to race home, giving the Golden Gophers a 1-0 lead.
Jordanne Nygren hit her second home run of the season and the 30th of her career in the fourth inning to seal the victory.
Marten is now 6-0 on the season with a 0.27 earned run average, allowing just one run in 33 innings pitched. She is holding opposing hitters to a .077 batting average.
In Game Two, the Golden Gophers jumped on top early scoring two runs in the first inning en route to a 3-1 victory over the 49ers. After Tammi Hays and Nygren singled, Shelly Nichols and Roberts followed with a pair of two-out hits to drive the tandem in.
Upping her record to 2-1, Recknor carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, until Charlotte's Leah Hester led off with a single. Hester later scored an unearned run on a past ball.
Recknor added the final touches when she singled in the sixth inning to drive in Christina Zimmerman, who was pinch running for Thul. Thul had doubled earlier for her fourth extra-base hit of the season.
Minnesota will move on the Gold Bracket as pool champions. They will take Virgina, Saturday at 1 p.m. EST.
