Baum and Hehn Named MVPs of Women's Swim Team

Dana Baum and Keri Hehn were named Most Valuable.

Hehn placed eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.43 at the 2002 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas to earn her first All-American honor. Hehn became the Gophers' second first-team All-American since 1997. Hehn's time was the second-fastest time in Gopher history.

Baum, a junior from Carson City, Nev., earned All-American honorable mention when she placing 15th in the 500-yard freestyle. Baum finished 19th in the event at the 2001 NCAA Championships. Baum also competed in the 100 and 200-yard freestyles at Nationals. Minnesota finished in 32nd place, while Auburn won the national title with 474 points.

Senior Anne Koller earned the Dorothy Lestina Sheppard Award after serving as one of the team's tri-captains. She is a four-time letterwinner, along with a Patty Berg Academic Award recipient and Academic All-Big Ten. In the 2001-02 season, Koller was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay that placed eighth at the Big Ten Championships, swimming a national qualifying time of 3:25.56.

Carol Crouthamel was named the Hardest Worker, while Michelle Lieder, Jenny Power and Crouthamel were all voted Most Improved. Twelve swimmers and divers earned Outstanding Student-Athlete recognition for having a grade point average of 3.5 or above: Kim Bahmer, Dana Baum, Sara Rutkowski, Maria Bigwood, Jessica Crawford, Karen Egerman, Shanna Gustafson, Shannon Jackson, Sarah Solfelt, Lauren Guzauskas, Anne Koller and Megan Peters.
