2002 NCAA Champion Men's Golf Team Visits White House

Head coach Brad James and the members of the 2002 men's golf team were honored in a ceremony at the White House on Tuesday for the NCAA Spring Sports Championship Day. "The University of Minnesota won its first NCAA men's golf championship this year," said President Bush in a speech in the East Room of the White House. "Incredibly enough, it was the only team in the tournament to finish below par. That's a hard course. I want to thank Brad James, the head coach, and Joel Maturi, who is the athletic director, for coming. And congratulations to the Golden Gophers Golf Team of Minnesota."
The second-ranked Golden Gopher men's golf team heads to Bloomington, Ind., this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29, to compete in the Northern Intercollegiate. The event will be played at the par 71, 6,942-yard Indiana University Golf Course. Indiana will also host the 2003 Men's Big Ten Tournament in the spring. Minnesota will play against 15 other teams from around the region, including eight other Big Ten teams.
