Minnesota Baseball Announces 2004 Schedule

Minnesota will take on six teams from last year's final Baseball America Top 25 poll, four teams that advanced to the Super Regionals in 2003 and two College World Series participants from last season.
The Golden Gophers will open the 2004 season in Boca Raton, Fla. where they will play 2003 NCAA participant Florida Atlantic on Friday, Feb. 27. Minnesota will also play Winthrop on Saturday, Feb. 28 and 2003 NCAA participant Notre Dame on Sunday, Feb. 29 in the same tournament. The Golden Gophers will take on 2003 College World Series participant Miami (Fla.) on Feb. 29 as well.
Following that tournament, Minnesota will head home to play Mankato State in a midweek game on Wednesday, Mar. 3. The Golden Gophers will then play host to the Dairy Queen Classic, which will feature a field of 2003 NCAA Super Regional participant Florida State, 2003 NCAA participant Nebraska and West Virginia, who finished second in the Big East in 2003.
From that point the Golden Gophers will embark on a 20-game road trip. That road trip will start with a three-game series against 2003 College World Series participant Cal State Fullerton (Mar. 12-14). Minnesota will continue the trip with a single game against Cal State Northridge on Wednesday Mar. 17, and will wrap up a nine-day, seven-game California road trip with a three-game series at UC Irvine (Mar. 18-20).
The 20-game road trip continues with a four-game non-conference series at Iowa (Mar. 26-28). Minnesota will then start Big Ten play on the road with a four-game series at Michigan on Apr. 2-4. The Golden Gophers will finally wrap up the trip with a midweek game at Northern Iowa on Wednesday, Apr. 7, and a four-game conference series at Indiana from Apr. 9-11.
Minnesota will play its first home game at Siebert Field against South Dakota State on Wednesday, Apr. 14. The Golden Gophers will play their first home Big Ten series with a four-game series against Penn State on Apr. 16-18. For a second straight season, Minnesota will wrap up Big Ten conference play at home against Ohio State in a four-game series on May 21-23.
The Golden Gophers will also take on Northwestern (Apr. 23-25) and Illinois (14-16) in Big Ten road series, along with Purdue (Apr. 30-May 2) and Iowa (May 7-9) in Big Ten home series.
