BB: Minnesota Baseball Announces 2005 Schedule

The Minnesota baseball team has finalized its 2005 schedule according to an announcement by head coach John Anderson on Monday, Oct. 25. Minnesota will play 34 of its 56 games at home, including a record 23 games at Metrodome.

Twenty-one of the Golden Gophers non-conference games will be played in a home venue this season.

Minnesota will host the 14th annual Pro-Alumni game on at the Metrodome at Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m.

The Golden Gophers will start the regular-season in Fayetteville, Ark. when they take on 2004 College World Series participant Arkansas in a three-game series on Feb. 25-27. Minnesota will return home after that to host the 21st annual Dairy Queen Classic on Mar. 4-6. The Dairy Queen Classic field will include 2004 College World Series participant South Carolina, 2004 NCAA Regional participant Pepperdine and New Orleans. The Golden Gophers will play New Orleans on Mar. 4, South Carolina on Mar. 5 and Pepperdine on Mar. 6.

Minnesota will host a second three-team tournament at the Metrodome on Mar. 11-13. The tournament field will include 2004 NCAA Regional participant St. John's and Louisiana Lafayette. The Golden Gophers will play St. John's on Friday, Mar. 11, and turn around and play both teams on Mar. 12.

The Golden Gophers will also play a pair of three-game non-conference series at the Metrodome against Rutgers (Mar. 18-20) and Butler (Mar. 25-27)

Minnesota will open up the Big Ten slate on Apr. 1-3 against Michigan at the Metrodome. The Golden Gophers first Big Ten road trip will be on Apr. 15-17 when they visit Penn State. Minnesota will also finish up Big Ten play with a trip to Ohio State on May 20-22.

The Golden Gophers will also home Big Ten series against Indiana (Siebert Field, Apr. 8-10), Northwestern (Metrodome, Apr. 22-24) and Illinois (Siebert Field, May 13-15). Minnesota will also make Big Ten road trips to Purdue on Apr. 30-May 1 and to Iowa on May 6-8.

Minnesota also has a pair of home-and-home midweek series with Northern Iowa (Apr. 6 at Northern Iowa; May 17 at Siebert Field), South Dakota State (Apr. 13 at Siebert Field; Apr. 20 at South Dakota State) and North Dakota State (Apr. 26 at North Dakota State); May 3 at Siebert Field).

Minnesota has 19 letterwinners returning from the first team in school history to claim the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. The Golden Gophers finished 38-23 in 2003, and advanced to the NCAA Regionals. Minnesota also won its third straight Big Ten regular season title, marking the first time since 1968-70 that the Golden Gophers claimed three straight conference titles.
