Women's Swimming Finishes Prelims at the NCAA Championships

The Golden Gopher women's swimming team completed the the first day of the NCAA Championships today in College Station, Texas. Minnesota competed in the 200-meter free relay, the 400-meter freestyle, the 200 individual medley and the 50 free.

The Maroon and Gold led off with the 200 free relay. The team of Katy Coombe, Kate Hardt, Melissa Schold and Sarah Bohlsen teamed together for a time of 1:44.82

Hardt followed with a 400 free performance. She finished 47th overall with a time of 4:13.98. It was her first individual race at the NCAA Championships.

Juleen Rodakowski added a 68th-place finish in the 200 IM. She clocked a meter time of 2:19.67. Coombe had the swim team's highest finish, placing 41st with a meter time of :25.84.

Abbie Bowden finished 18th in the 1-meter diving competition, while Rebecca Cornthwaite added a 23rd-place showing.

Of the five swim events contested, four had NCAA record-breaking times.

The Golden Gophers will compete again tomorrow at 11 a.m.
