University of Minnesota men's golfer Bronson La'Cassie finished fifth at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational with a 5-under-par total of 211 for three rounds. The Golden Gophers won the event defeating a strong field including 10 of the nation's top 25 teams. The freshman from Brisbane, Australia, finished just four strokes behind tournament champion Matt Hendrix of Clemson. LaCassie recorded the lowest three-round total of his career and equaled his best career round with a score of 69 for Sunday's final 18 holes. He has now lowered his stroke average to 72.63 on the season.
This is the second straight week the Gophers have earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week. Senior All-American Justin Smith won the award last week. Minnesota returns to action this weekend at The Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C.
