For the third year in a row, and the fourth time in five years, Minnesota will host the Big Ten Tournament. The Golden Gophers earned the right to host the tournament by winning the regular season title with a record of 21-10 in Big Ten play. Ohio State (19-12) is the second seed, Michigan (19-13) is the No. 3 seed, Michigan State (19-13) is the fourth seed, Purdue (17-14) is the fifth and Penn State (17-15) is the sixth. Minnesota was 9-6 against the tournament field. The Golden Gophers split with Michigan and Penn State, won three of four from Purdue, won two of three from Ohio State in an abbreviated three-game series and did not play Michigan State. Ohio State has won the last two tournament championships. The Golden Gophers won in 2001 and have appeared in the last three Big Ten Tournament title games. Siebert Field has hosted five Big Ten Tournaments. Michigan won the first two in 1984 and 86, Illinois won in 2000 and Ohio State won in 2002 and 2003.

Minnesota claimed its third straight Big Ten regular season title with a 7-1 victory over Ohio State on May 22. With the victory, the Golden Gophers accomplished the feat for the first time since 1968-70 and only the third time in school history. Minnesota's first run of three straight Big Ten regular season titles came in 1958-60. Ohio State was the last team to accomplish the feat in 1993-95.
