John Albert, Mikael Jakobsson and Adam Steele were named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's Track/Cross Country Team making the University of Minnesota the only school in the nation with three men's track & field student-athletes honored as Academic All-Americans this season.

Albert and Jakobsson were voted to the first team, while Steele was named to the third team. Jakobsson was a third-team honoree a year ago. Albert and Steele are Academic All-Americans for the first time. Kentucky was the only other school with two student-athletes selected to the first team. Minnesota is also the only Big Ten school with athletes earning spots on the three-team, 48-member honor squad.

Albert, a junior from Eden Prairie, Minn., earned All-America honors in the high jump at both the 2004 indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships. Albert also captured the 2004 Big Ten title during the indoor season. He is majoring in business.

Jakobsson, a senior from Orebro, Sweden, completed his Golden Gopher career as an eight-time All-American and six-time Big Ten champion on the track. Jakobsson owns the school record in the 400-meter hurdles and is majoring in economics.

Steele, a senior from Eden Prairie, Minn., was a nine-time All-American for the Golden Gophers, winning the 2003 400-meter dash national title and helping two Minnesota relays to national runner-up finishes. Steele won eight Big Ten titles during his career. He is majoring in sociology.
