For the first time in school history, Minnesota claimed both the Big Ten regular season and tournament title. The Golden Gophers clinched the Big Ten regular season title on May 22 when it defeated Ohio State 7-2 in the second game of a doubleheader. One week later, the Golden Gophers defeated the Buckeyes 7-3 in the Big Ten Tournament championship game. The tournament title was Minnesota's eighth in school history, the most by any Big Ten team. It was the Golden Gophers first Big Ten tournament title since 2001. Minnesota joined Michigan (1981, 83, 87) and Ohio State (1991, 94, 95) as the only programs in the Big Ten to claim both the regular season and tournament title in the same season. With the tournament victory, Minnesota has now won exactly one-third of the Big Ten Tournament titles. All eight titles have come with John Anderson as the manager.

Minnesota advanced to its second straight NCAA Regional and sixth in the last seven years. The Golden Gophers lost a pair of games to eventual national champion Cal State Fullerton (7-1) and the seventh-seed of the NCAA Tournament Arizona State (6-4) at Fullerton, Calif. Minnesota has advanced to 14 NCAA Regionals under head coach John Anderson. In five of those 14 NCAA Regionals Minnesota has traveled to California to compete in the NCAA Tournament.
