Brown Reaches Final of 200 Breaststroke at Olympic Games

Br Former Golden Gopher All-American swimmer Mike Brown reached the final of the 200-meter breaststroke Tuesday night at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Brown, swimming for Canada, led a contigent of Gopher Swimming alumni that competed on Tuesday in Athens.

Brown went a 2:12.14 in the semifinals to take second in his heat behind Japan's Kosuke Kitajima and will swim in lane seven in tonight's final. Brown finished third in the 200 breaststroke for the Gophers at the 2003 NCAA Championships.

Former Gopher Martin Gustavsson competed for Sweden in the 200 breaststroke as well. He posted a time of 2:17.12 in the final heat of the prelims and failed to make the semifinals. Gustavsson was an All-American for Minnesota in 2001 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Allen Ong, a nine-time All-American for Minnesota from 1999-2003, swam the 100 freestyle for Malaysia on Tuesday, finishing seventh in his preliminary heat in a time of 52.04. Ong will also compete in the 50 freestyle this week.
