WTF: Hupp Highlights Gopher Efforts at Husker Invite

Hupp had another impressive performance running the anchor leg for the 4x400 meter relay team. Trailing when she received the baton, Hupp ran down her competition on the final 200 meter lap, propelling the Gophers to a come-from-behind victory in the heat. The team of Melissa Steele, Kadian Douglas, Mollie Grundman, and Hupp finished third overall in a time of 3:44.17.
Minnesota also had a strong showing in the mile run, capturing three of the top five spots, including two on the podium. Freshman Ladia Albertson-Junkans took the silver in a time of 4:56.94, while Emily Brown grabbed bronze, crossing the finish line in 4:57.05. Carly Emil (5:00.78) finished fifth, improving her personal record by nearly five seconds.
Other notable performances at Nebraska included Douglas' fourth- place finish in the 60 meter dash in a personal record time of 7.56 seconds. Sarah Nelson also posted a fourth-place finish Friday in the long jump, marking 19-2. Jenn Hess' recorded a seventh-place finish in the 3,000 meters while clocking a personal-best time of 10:00.06.
Competing as a split squad, Minnesota's athletes also participated in the MSU Open in Mankato, Minn. There the Gophers swept the top two spots in the 5,000 meters led by Paula Hoffert's victory in a time of 18:19. Amy Lindner followed as the runner-up, clocking 18:24. Tracy Fleischhacker also took second place in the mile run in a time of 5:20.
In the field events, Christine Tvrdik won the long jump with a leap of 18-3 3/4, while Jessica Stephan captured the weight throw title with a mark of 52-6 1/2.
The Gophers compete again next weekend, traveling to Ames, Iowa to participate in the Cyclone Classic.
