Senior Lyn Peyer pitched a three-hit, complete-game shutout as the Golden Gopher softball team (11-9) defeated No. 26 Pacific, 4-0, in the first game of the Eller Media Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. In the second game of the tournament, Minnesota was defeated by Bowling Green, 2-0.
The Golden Gophers jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the third inning as Stephanie Sward reached on a Pacific error. After Sward reached second on a wild pitch, Lindsey Erickson delivered an RBI single to right center.
Minnesota broke the game open in the sixth inning as Rachel Keeney and Valerie Alston led off with back-to-back doubles. After Rene Konderik reached on an infield single, Alston came home from third following an error by Pacific catcher Brandi Gordon. Stefanie Watt would later deliver an RBI single to give the Golden Gophers a 4-0 lead.
Keeney went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Golden Gophers avenged a loss to the Tigers last week. Erickson added two hits and an RBI in the victory.
