SB: Minnesota Hangs On to Defeat Boston College, 3-2

The Golden Gopher softball team (10-9) held on to defeat Boston College, 3-2, in its final game at the Worth Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. Senior Rachel Keeney finished with two hits, including an RBI double, and scored the eventual game-winning run in the fourth inning.
Minnesota jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning as Stephanie Sward led off with an infield single. After stealing second and reaching third on a wild pitch, she came around to score on another wild pitch. With two outs in the first, Keeney drove in Lindsey Erickson with a double to right center.
The Golden Gophers increased their lead with another run in the fourth inning. Keeney led off with a single to left field and then reached second on a sacrifice. After stealing third base, she would come home to score on an error by third baseman Kristin Allain.
Boston College rallied in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to one. With two outs, a pair of Eagles walked and then Ashley Obrest delivered a two-run double to center field. Senior starter Lyn Peyer got out of the jam by getting Jamie Van Dijk to ground out and end the inning.
Peyer retired the Eagles in order in the seventh inning to earn the complete-game victory. She allowed just two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
Minnesota returns to the road next weekend to compete in the Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., March 11-13.
