Minnesota will have 22 letterwinners returning from a team that advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Championship for a conference-record fifth-straight season.
The Golden Gophers also welcome four true freshmen to the program and two junior college transfers. Joining the four true freshmen are five freshmen who redshirted the 2005 season for Minnesota. Minnesota also has six seniors returning this season, 11 juniors and eight sophomores.
Highlighting the returnees are the two returning All-Big Ten players in Third-Team All-Big Ten senior first baseman Andy Hunter (West St. Paul, Minn.) and Third-Team All-Big Ten junior reliever John Gaub (South St. Paul, Minn.). Hunter has been named All-Big Ten in all three of his seasons with the Golden Gophers.
Minnesota started intersquad play last weekend. Highlighting last weekend’s intersquad game from the plate was freshman Nate Hanson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) who had two hits in the game, along with redshirt freshman Bryan Jost (Oakdale, Minn.) who also had two hits. Junior pitcher Cole DeVries (Eden Prairie, Minn.) gave up just one hit in three innings of work, while sophomore Gary Perinar (Shorewood, Ill.) pitched a scoreless inning and struck out two batters.
