Maroon Team Defeats Gold 155-137 in Gophers' Intrasquad Meet

Four swimmers won multiple events as the Maroon team beat the Gold team 155-137 in the Minnesota men’s swimming and diving Intrasquad meet on Saturday at the University Aquatic Center.
Junior David Plummer led both teams with three victories for Gold, winning the 100 and 200 backstroke and the 200 individual medley. In the 100 backstroke, he outlasted junior Mike Woodson, who placed second. In the 200 backstroke, Plummer and Woodson again went 1-2. Plummer won the 200 IM, edging out sophomore Colin Lee-To who was second.
Sophomore Evan Bernier won the 200 freestyle and the 100 fly for Maroon. Sophomore Mike Holmes also won two events for Maroon. Holmes won the 1000 free, easily defeating freshman Michael Daup who placed second . Holmes won the 500 free while junior Erich Welton was second.
Senior Igor Cerensek won the 50 free and 100 free for Gold with Woodson taking second in the 50 and junior Tyler Schmidt taking second in the 100.
The Maroon team won both relays in the meet. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Dan Berve, Lee-To, Bernier and Mario Delac finished first. In the 400 free relay, the squad of Woodson, Schmidt, Delac and Jason Timmer cruised to a victory.
Senior Shaun Kennedy posted a score of 308.90 to win the 1-meter diving competition, followed by sophomore Cole Young who placed second at 280.40. Young won the 3-meter diving with a score of 273.00, while Kennedy placed second at 238.60.
The Gophers open up the regular season on Friday, Oct. 20 when they host Iowa at 4 p.m. at the University Aquatic Center.
