Tyler Hirsch Named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

University of Minnesota senior forward Tyler Hirsch (Bloomington, Minn.) has been named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, following Minnesota’s two-game road sweep of Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Hirsch had a team-leading three-point weekend to lead the Golden Gophers to two 3-2 wins and extend Minnesota’s winning streak to eight games.

On Friday, Hirsch assisted on Kyle Okposo’s even-strength goal at 17:06 of the second period to give Minnesota the 2-0 lead. For the game, he had one shot at was a +1. On Saturday, Hirsch had one goal and one assist to lead Minnesota to the 3-2 overtime win. He assisted on Mike Vannelli’s power-play goal at 5:50 of the third period to tie the game at 2-2, before scoring the overtime game-winner 49 seconds into the extra session. The goal was Hirsch’s first game-winner of the season and second overall. For the game, Hirsch was tied for the team lead with five shots and was a +1. For the weekend, Hirsch had six shots and was a +6.

With his three-point weekend, Hirsch now leads the team and the WCHA in points (2-12--14), points per game (1.75), assists and assists per game (1.50). He is also on a three-game point streak (1-5--6).

The award is the first Offensive Player of the Week honor for Hirsch in his career.
