The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced that freshman forward Kelli Blankenship (Lusby, Md.) has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for her performance against North Dakota last weekend.

Blankenship led the Gophers in scoring in both games with a goal and two assists in the 8-1 win on Dec. 9. Of Blankenship’s two assists, one came in a set up for Brittany Francis in front of the net for a power-play. She followed with scoring the Gophers’ only goal in the 1-0 shutout win over UND on Dec. 10. Her goal came off one of two shots during the win. On the weekend, Blankenship had six shots and four points and held a plus/minus rating of +3. With her four points on the weekend, Blankenship has 13 points on the season and established her first game-winning goal in her Gopher career.

Blankenship and the rest of the Gophers are idle until Jan. 5-6 when they host No. 3 Wisconsin. It will be a battle of No. 3 Wisconsin and No. 4 Minnesota at Ridder Arena. The Jan. 5 game will be played at 7 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. tilt on Jan. 6.
