The Big Ten Conference has announced that Igor Cerensek (Zagreb, Croatia) has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for his performance at the Ohio State Invitational last weekend. Cerensek shares the award with Northwestern’s Kyle Bubolz.

Cerensek earned his first Big Ten weekly honor after posting seven event wins including two individual wins (100 and 200 freestyle) and contributing on all five of Minnesota's victorious relays at the Ohio State Invitational. He was involved in one NCAA automatic qualifying time, seven NCAA B-cut times and set six new pool records.

His top individual performance came leading off the 400 freestyle relay, where he clocked an NCAA automatic time of 43.50. He earlier won the 100 freestyle in 44.46 and also had an NCAA B cut time in winning the 200 freestyle in 1:36.93. His only second place finish came in the 50 free, placing second in 20.29, behind teammate Ales Volcansek, who broke the pool record in 19.89.

All of the Gophers five relays that Cerensek anchored had NCAA B cut times including the 200 medley relay (1:27.64), 400 medley relay (3:13.79), 200 freestyle relay (1:19.91), 400 freestyle relay (2:56.27) and 800 freestyle relay (6:29.80). The seventh-ranked Gophers cruised to a win over the 12-team field at the Ohio State Invitational with 1,193.5 points.

Cerensek is the second Gopher to earn a Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor this season. David Plummer (Oklahoma City, Okla.) earned the award on October 24.
