Laura Johnson Completes Season at the NCAA Championships

Johnson's highest finish was a tie for 17th place, with a score of 9.825 in the floor exercise. She came in tied for 19th place on the bars with a 9.775, and tied for 21st on the vault with a mark of 9.750. She recorded a fall on the beam, and finished in 42nd place on the beam with a mark of 9.125. Johnson finished 20th in the all around in her session with a tally of 38.475.
"We are so proud of Laura and the way she represented the University of Minnesota," said Stephenson. "She was a great representative of not only Minnesota, but the entire Big Ten Conference. She had a great meet, a fantastic season, and an incredible career."
Johnson finished her career as one of the most decorated gymnasts in Gopher history. She was an All-Big Ten honoree in every year of her career, and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten award winner. At the 2006 Big Ten Championships, she won an event title on the vault, and led her team to the team title. Johnson's highest honor was being named the 2006 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year.
"Watching the teams at the NCAA meet made us realize that our team is at the caliber to compete at this level," said Stephenson. "We have a very strong core group of returning gymnasts for next season, and we are really excited about our incoming freshmen. Seeing that our team is at the caliber of the best teams in the country gave us a big confidence boost going into next season."
