Gophers Selected to NCAA North Central Region Championship

Iowa State is the top-seeded team in the North Central Region, and won the Big 12 title last weekend. The Cyclones are currently ranked No. 4 in the GymInfo National Rankings. Arizona State, ranked No. 11, and Arizona, ranked No. 15, are the other seeded teams in the region. No. 19 Denver is the other North Central Region team ranked above the Gophers. No. 24 Brigham Young is the sixth team in the regional championship. Individual gymnasts from Iowa, Southern Utah, and Utah State will also compete in the event.
Minnesota has faced Iowa State and Denver earlier this season. Iowa State won both meetings so far in the 2006 season, with a 196.075-194.750 won in the Sports Pavilion on Feb. 25, and a 196.650-195.175 win in Ames on March 3. The Gophers competed against Denver in the season opener, and defeated the Pioneers 192.900-192.350 in the Sports Pavilion.
Thirty-six teams will compete at six regional sites on April 8, with the top two teams from each region earning a spot at the NCAA Championship, which will be held at Oregon State on April 20-22.
