Gopher Diving Inks Barstad to National Letter of Intent

University of Minnesota diving coach Jason Baumann has announced that Eden Prairie, Minn., native, Alexandra Barstad has signed a national letter of intent and will join the Golden Gopher women's swimming and diving team in the fall of 2006.

Barstad, a member of the Eden Prairie High School swimming and diving team, was the Minnesota State High School runner-up in 2005, after a 23rd place performance in 2004. She is also trains with the Twin City Divers club team. Barstad comes from two former Golden Gopher athletes in Steve and Janice Barstad. Her father Steve competed in swimming and water polo club programs, while her mom Janice competed in track and field.

"I am really looking forward to working with Alex," Baumann said. "She improved dramatically over the last year, and is ready to take the next step to the college level. I am very excited to keep her in the state of Minnesota. She will be a great addition to our team."
