Cole Konrad placed third at the World University Championships in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, this past weekend. Konrad earned the bronze medal at 120kg following his 4-0, 3-0 wins against I. Zykov of Russia. Konrad was defeated in the semifinals by eventual champion P. Allajanihadi of Iran. Konrad pinned D. Lkhagvordorj of host Mongolia in his first match.
A three-time All-American, Konrad was the 2006 NCAA Champion at heavyweight and also captured his second-straight Big Ten title this past March. Konrad needs 18 wins to start his senior season to break Tim Hartung's school record of 58 straight wins. He is just 39 wins shy of Ed Giese's school record of 158 career victories.
