Six Headed to Ohio for U20 World Team Trials, U23 Nationals

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota wrestling is sending six to the 2026 U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials this weekend in Geneva, Ohio. The entire event takes place May 29-31 at Spire Academy and will be streamed on FloWrestling.

Three future Gophers are scheduled to compete in the U20 Freestyle Team Trials. Tyler Dekraker has the third-highest Performance Index, or PIN, at 65 kg with a rating of 1396. Meanwhile, John Murphy's PIN of 1254 ranks eighth at 86 kg. In addition, Evan McGuire is scheduled to compete at 97 kg.

The winners of the U20 trials will represent the United States at the U20 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, August 16-23.

Three more Gophers, all of whom will be redshirt sophomores in the 2026-27 season, are set to take part in the U23 Freestyle Nationals: Blake Beissel (57 kg), Silas Dailey (86 kg) and Koy Hopke (125 kg). 

The U23 World Championships are set for later this year in Las Vegas, Oct. 12-18.

Action for the U20 entrants starts Friday at 9 a.m. CT with Session I, featuring prelims, quarterfinals, semifinals and the challenge finals. Session II starts at 3 p.m. with medal matches and the best-of-three finals.

The U23 competitors start Saturday with prelims and consolations. Session III begins at 8:30 a.m. CT, while Session IV starts at 3 p.m. CT. Sunday's Session IV is scheduled for a 9 a.m. CT start time with quarterfinals, semifinals, consolations, medal matches, and the best-of-three finals.
