6/8/2006 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
La’Cassie, a native of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, received All-America recognition for the third straight season. He was an honorable mention selection in 2004 and was a third team selection last season. La’Cassie finished tied for sixth at NCAAs and earlier this season won the Les Bolstad Award for lowest scoring average by a Big Ten golfer. His season stroke average of 72.43 is the seventh best all-time in Gopher history and his career average of 72.39 ranks second on the Minnesota career scoring average list.
Turner, a native of Cork, Ireland, earned his first All-America award. Turner finished tied for 10th at the NCAA Championships and finished the season with a stroke average of 73.68. Turner was the only Gopher to play in every event this season and he won his first collegiate title in the fall at the Minnesota Invitational this past fall. He recorded three top 10s in 2005-06 with nine under-par rounds and 27 rounds below 75.
Turner becomes the sixth different golfer to be named an All-American in head coach Brad James’ five-year tenure. Six different golfers have earned 11 All-America citations in the past five seasons and Turner becomes the 23rd Golden Gopher golfer to earn All-America honors.
