Gopher Women's Swimmers Conclude 2006 ConocoPhillips National Championships

The University of Minnesota women's swim team concluded the final two days of the 2006 ConocoPhillips National Championships, held in Irvine, Calif. Minnesota had six swimmers compete in the final two days of competition.

Former Gopher Katie Wind placed 29th out of 81 qualifiers in the 200-meter backstroke event on Friday night. Wind touched the wall in 2:19.34. Jenny Shaughnessy also competed in the event and finished in a time of 2:22.05 and 59th overall. Incoming freshman Castina Wabeke placed 78th overall in 2:26.09. Christine Jennings placed 32nd overall in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 8:53.89 to close out Friday's events.

In Saturday's competition, Stacy Busack competed in the 100 free and placed 73rd out of 95 competitors in a time of 58.48. Former Gopher and All-American Keri Hehn finished fourth overall in the 200 breaststroke. Hehn improved her preliminary time of 2:30.68 and swam the championship final in 2:29.44.

The summer nationals conclude the Gophers' offseason competition. The Maroon and Gold will start their season on Friday, Oct. 6 as they host the Alumni Meet at the University Aquatic Center.
