Gophers Move Up to Eighth in Men's Hockey Polls

10/29/2007 12:00:00 AM | Men's Hockey

With its sweep of Ohio State last week, Minnesota moved up two spots to eighth in this week's NCAA men's hockey rankings.

The Gophers hold down the eighth spot in both the USA Hockey/USA Today poll and the U.S. College Hockey Online/CSTV polls. Minnesota was 10th in last week's poll before sweeping 14th-ranked Ohio State 3-1 and 2-1 last week at Mariucci Arena. This week marks the 96th straight week that Minnesota has been among the nation's top 15 teams and the 61st time in the last 62 polls that the Gophers have been ranked in the top 10 during the season.

Minnesota will play another ranked opponent this weekend when it hosts seventh-ranked Denver at Mariucci Arena on Friday at 7:07 p.m. and Sunday at 2:07 p.m. Including this weekend's contests, the Gophers are opening the season with seven of their first eight games against ranked teams. Minnesota is 4-2 overall and has played four one-goal games among its six contests.

Miami (Ohio) took over the top spot in both of this week's national polls. Minnesota is among eight Western Collegiate Hockey Association teams in the USCHO/CSTV top 20.
