Gopher freshman diver Drew Brown won the platform competition this afternoon at the Minnesota Diving Invitational at University Aquatic Center. Junior Cole Young finished second and sophomore Tyler Jepsen was third.

Brown tallied a six-dive score of 330.675, which ranks as the second-best six-dive score in school history in the event. The score is even more impressive considering it was Brown's first collegiate event on the 10-meter platform. Young scored 311.775 points to finish a strong overall competition. He won the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events on Friday and Saturday. Jepsen earned a score of 226.650 to finish third.

“We really had an outstanding weekend of diving. I am very proud of how the divers were able to perform during the competitions the way they have in practice," diving coach Jason Baumann said. "Cole in particular had an outstanding weekend, despite coming up a bit short against Drew today on platform today. He still managed to almost put together a career best day, while being a bit off. We have been really working hard on his entries and that is starting to show. I am really excited to see how these performances set us up for the upcoming invitational meets in Indiana and Ohio State.

Drew is going to be a great all-around diver and in a short time on platform he has made leaps and bounds of progress so far, and I expect that will continue."

Minnesota Diving will head to the Indiana Invitational next week, November 16-18, in Bloomington, Ind. They will join the Minnesota swimmers for the Ohio State Invitational November 30-December 2.
