Junior diver Cole Young claimed the 10-meter platform title this afternoon on the final day of the Hoosierland Open in Bloomington, Ind. Young beat a field of 15 divers to win his fifth diving title of the season.

Young scored 365.45 points to tally the second-best score in school history on the platform. His score was just five points shy of the school record set by Shaun Kennedy at last year's NCAA Championships en route to NCAA All-America honors. Young placed ahead of a trio of Indiana divers that finished 2-3-4. Landon Marzullo was second at 345.55, followed by Will Bohonyi (330.25) and David Legler (324.20). Freshman Drew Brown also placed fifth with a score of 321.85 while sophomore Tyler Jepsen also finished 11th with a score of 215.20.

“This was a great day for our team," diving coach Jason Baumann said. "The Indiana team is known for the strength on platform and our guys dove awesome and hung in. Cole had a career best to end the weekend. I am so proud of him, he was an excellent leader. For Drew in just his second competition on platform he did a great job missing only the inward 3 and a half which he learned only about 2 weeks ago. This was a great experience for our guys to see some great divers in our conference and see how they stack up right now. Cole and Drew are a great one-two punch who train very well together and push each other everyday in practice and that is serving them well."

Young wrapped up a strong weekend where he finished fifth in the 3-meter and and sixth on the 1-meter. Brown took third on the 3-meter and seventh on the 1-meter.

Minnesota returns to action November 30-December at the Ohio State Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. The complete No. 10 Gopher Swimming and Diving team will be in action.
