Minnesota Men's Golf Program Inks Four

Director of golf Brad James announced Monday that four student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent with the Minnesota men’s golf program and will join the team as freshmen for the 2008-09 campaign.
Minnesota’s four additions include: Derek Chang (Alpharetta, Ga. - Marist School); David Haley, Jr. (Hilliard, Ohio - Hilliard Darby High School); Chris Meyer (Edina, Minn. - Edina High School); and Tim Peterzen (Elk River, Minn. - Elk River High School).
An accomplished prep golfer and a two-time member of the Georgia all-state team, Chang captured the 2007 region championship and was the runner-up at the 2007 Georgia High School Boys State Championship.
On the junior level, Chang was a consistent top-20 finisher on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) circuit. He also placed tied for ninth at the 2007 Georgia State Junior Championships, tied for 12th at the 2006 Georgia State Junior Championships and was the 2005 Atlanta Junior Golf Association Grand Champion.
Haley comes to Minnesota on the heels of an outstanding prep career that saw him earn medalist honors in nine high school tournaments. The Division I district medalist in 2007, Haley went on to capture the 2007 Ohio Division I Boys High School State Championship with a two-round total of 76-77153 (+11) at The Ohio State University Scarlet Golf Course, Oct. 19-20.
On the junior circuit, Haley tied for seventh at the AJGA Natural Resources Championship and 13th at the AJGA Memorial.
A local product from Edina High School, Meyer earned 2007 Class AA all-state honors and was a two-time selection to the Classic Lake all-conference team as a prep. An eighth-place finisher at the Minnesota Boys State Championship, Meyer also posted a pair of top-five finishes on the Future Collegians World Tour.
Peterzen, an Elk River product, was a qualifier at the 2006 Minnesota High School Boys Championship and place third at the conference championships in both 2006 and 2007. Peterzen also took fourth at the 2007 Tri-State Invitational, third in the Minnesota Junior PGA Player’s Cup and eighth at the Westfield PGA State Tournament.
