Minnesota Hosts 16th Annual Pro-Alumni Game

The Minnesota baseball program will host the Pro-Alumni Game on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3:05 p.m. Current Minnesota players will take batting practice from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Following Minnesota’s batting practice there will be a Gopher Legend’s Game that will go from 12:00 p.m to 1:30 p.m. Each inning will consist of three outs or six batters. The Pro-Alumni will take batting practice from 1:50 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Following their batting practice, the Pro-Alumni will be introduced at 2:50 p.m. First pitch will take place at 3:05 p.m. Minnesota has won three of the last four Pro-Alumni games, including an 8-5 victory last year. The series is tied at 7-7-1 heading into today’s game. Today’s game will be the last Pro-Alumni Game. Next year, a national starting date will be in effect for every team in the country and nobody will be allowed to play a Pro-Alumni Game according to the new rules of the NCAA.

The Minnesota baseball team was picked to finish third in the Big Ten according to a poll conducted by Baseball America Magazine. The preseason poll picked Michigan to win the Big Ten championship and Ohio State to finish second. Following Minnesota at third, was Michigan State, Purdue, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Penn State and Indiana. Last year, Minnesota finished in fourth place in the Big Ten. Michigan was the regular-season champions, followed by Northwestern at second place, Ohio State in third, along with Illinois and Purdue finishing fifth and sixth respectively. The Wolverines ended up winning the Big Ten Tournament, while Minnesota finished second. Michigan advanced to the NCAA Tournament and went 1-2 in the Georgia Tech Regional.

Minnesota junior righthander Dustin Brabender was picked in the top five of draftable prospects from the Big Ten Conference, according to the preseason Baseball America publication. Brabender was picked along with Zach Putnam of Michigan, Josh Lindblom from Purdue, Matt Angle of Ohio State and Cory Luebke of Ohio State as the top five prospects in the conference.
