Gophers Host Double Dual at Lake Phalen This Weekend

GOPHERS HOST FIRST RACE OF THE YEAR IN DOUBLE DUAL ACTION
The University of Minnesota rowing team will compete in its first home event of the 2006-07 campaign when the Golden Gophers face Big Ten opponents Iowa and Wisconsin along with non-conference teams Oregon State and Drake, Saturday, April 14 at Lake Phalen in St. Paul, Minn. The events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Times may change due to the weather.
ORDER OF EVENTS
Two sessions will be held this weekend out at Lake Phalen. The morning session is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and races will continue in 15-minute intervals until 11:45 a.m. Following a break, the afternoon session will begin at 1 p.m. Times may change due to the weather.

GOPHERS IN THE RANKINGS
Minnesota’s First Varsity Eight has been ranked in the top-15 since the start of the season in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll. The Gophers earned a 13th-place ranking to open the season in March. After the Gophers defeated Tennessee and Notre Dame, Minnesota held the 10-place ranking in polls and currently rank 11th in the nation. The Gophers are the second-highest ranked team in the Big Ten, only to follow Big Ten champion, Ohio State, who is ranked third overall. Wisconsin is ranked 15th, followed by Michigan (16) and Michigan State (20). Along with facing the No. 15 Badgers, the Gophers will also compete against No. 17 Oregon State this weekend.

The Gophers will host for the second week in a row when Kansas comes to town on April 21 at 10 a.m. Minnesota will then gear up for the Big Ten Championships, April 28, which is held in Madison, Wis.
