University of Minnesota rowing head coach Wendy Davis has announced the hiring of Wendy Wisehart as an assistant coach. Wisehart, who was a volunteer assistant coach last season, took the place of Libby Sharrow, who went on to pursue her Ph.D in political science. Wisehart’s responsibilities will include coaching the Varsity Fours as well as assisting with recruiting.

"Bringing Wendy on board allows us to hit the ground running,” head coach Wendy Davis said. “She is very well acquainted with the Big Ten and NCAA rules from her time at Iowa. Being a volunteer coach with us last season, Wendy knows what we strive for and instill in the program. We are very pleased to have her join Gopher rowing.”

Prior to her arrival at Minnesota, Wisehart was the youth and outreach program director for the Norwalk River Rowing Association in Norwalk, Conn. During her time there, Wisehart was responsible for all youth programming, including a summer outreach camp for girls and coaching the novice girls. Wisehart is familiar with Big Ten rowing, serving as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa from 1998-2005. She served as the varsity assistant coach from 1998-2002 before being elevated to the novice coach in 2002. Wisehart coached the Second Varsity Eight for the year before her stint at the NRRA. With the Hawkeyes, Wisehart coached the Varsity Four to a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and South/Central Regionals and third at the NCAA Championships in 2001. The Second Varsity Eight she coached finished second at the 2003 Big Ten Championships and third at the regional regatta.

Wisehart graduated with an English degree from Iowa in 1993 and went on to achieve her master’s degree in US History in 1999 from New York University. A member of the University of Iowa Club Team, Wisehart was a member of the Lightweight Four that went undefeated in 1992, winning the Midwest Championships, the Dad Vail Regatta, the Eastern Sprints and the Collegiate National Regatta.

"I'm very excited to be coaching at Minnesota,” Wisehart said. “I've watched the program grow over the past seven years, and it has been impressive. The program has a lot of momentum. Last year was amazing for both novice and varsity. It's a great time to be a Gopher!"
