Welcome to the Golden Gophers’ Summer 2007 Fun in the Sun series. A new Gopher player or coach will be featured every day for the next couple of weeks. We hope you enjoy a glimpse of how your favorite Golden Gophers are spending the summer.
Go Gophers!
Hi Gopher fans!
Spending the summer in Minneapolis; taking classes, working out, playing ball, and still trying to get a feel for my new school has been an adventure. An adventure I never even thought twice that I would be having, but so far it has been way worth my while and liking. I am truly coming to embrace this new city that I am calling home for the rest of my college basketball career.
One of the few things that I did was attend the WNBA game at Williams Arena between the Minnesota Lynx and the Sacramento Monarchs in which the Monarchs played a close fought game with them and prevailed on top winning 85-80. During the timeout between the third and fourth quarter my teammates volunteered me to do the timeout entertainment in which I was blindfolded and had to be on my knees searching for the Minnesota Lynx's mascot by being directed by the crowd of booing or cheering if I was getting closer.
After the game I went into the Sacramento Monarchs’ lockerroom in the Pavilion to see if I could get a photo with point guard Ticha Penicheiro, who I believe is like the Steve Nash of women's basketball. She displays the true meaning of being a point guard, but foremost is a team leader. To my surprise after waiting for 20 long minutes Ticha Penicheiro, Rebekkah Brunson, and Scholanda Robinson were all walking out and I was able to get a picture with the three of them.
By far this has been the most fun and excitement I have had since being here for the summer and a memory that I will be able to have about my first summer in Minneapolis, MN.
