Six Golden Gophers Complete U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp

Fairchild and White have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Golden Gophers as freshmen this fall, while Carman, Fischer, Flynn and Okposo will be sophomores at Minnesota for the 2007-08 campaign. The camp will feature practices and eight international scrimmages with a split squad of the best American players under the age of 20 facing off against Sweden and Finland.
Forward White and defenseman Fairchild helped Team USA capture the silver medal earlier this spring at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship, while forwards Carman and Flynn captured the gold medal at the 2006 Under-18 Championship. Carman and Okposo were members of the U.S. National Junior Team that took third place at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship in Sweden. Carman, Fairchild and Flynn, were members of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The 2008 U.S. National Junior Team will be coached by John Hynes and assistant coach Keith Allain. Joining the staff at the National Junior Evaluation Camp was Tim Taylor, Jeff Jackson and John Harrington. Harrington, a member of the “Miracle on Ice” 1980 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team and the father of former Golden Gopher defenseman Chris Harrington, is currently head coach at St. John’s University.
