Gophers In 10th Place After Two Rounds of Gopher Invitational

The University of Minnesota men's golf team is in 10th place after 36 holes of the Gopher Invitational at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn. The Gophers struggled ot find their groove shooting rounds of 308-304 for a total of 36-over-par 612. Minnesota trails tournament leader Lamar by 36 shots. Lamar leads the Wisconsin Badgers by six shots going into tomorrow's final round at the par 72, 7,020-yard Tom Fazio designed layout.

The Gophers were led by junior All-American Victor Almstrom and senior Clayton Rask who are tied for 10th at 1-over-par 145. Almstrom fired a 71 in the first round while Rask matched that total in the afternoon's second round. The duo trail individual leader Danny Zimmerman of Wisconsin by nine shots. Zimmerman matched the Spring Hill course record with a 66 in round one. Zimmerman shares the course record with former Gopher Antti Ahokas and PGA Tour player Tim Herron. Zimmerman followed his 66 wtih a second round 70 for a 36-hole total of 8-under 136. He leads his teammate Dan Woltman by five shots.


Minnesota struggled in the other three spots of its lineup. Sophomore Ben Pisani is 53rd at 159 and junior Patrick Datz and sophomore Thomas Campbell are tied for 61st at 20-over 164.

Junior Andy Paulson, playing as an individual, carded a second round 70 and is tied for 13th at 2-over 146. Junior Robbie Kelley is tied for 17th at 4-over 148 and freshman Justin Kaplan is tied for 57th at 17-over 161.
