Bostrom and Flynn Named Gopher Hockey Assistant Captains

Senior Justin Bostrom and junior Ryan Flynn will serve as assistant captains for the upcoming 2008-09 University of Minnesota men’s hockey season, Gophers head coach Don Lucia has announced.

Bostrom and Flynn join junior Ryan Stoa, who was selected as the team’s captain last spring. The trio will lead a Gopher squad that features 12 newcomers and 18 freshmen and sophomores among the 27-player roster.

Bostrom, a forward from Vadnais Heights, Minn. who attended Mounds View High School, played in 39 games for the Gophers last season and tallied four goals and four assists for eight points. Bostrom was one of the team’s top penalty killers last season and was named to the WCHA All-Academic team for the second straight year.

Flynn, a forward from Lino Lakes, Minn. who attended Centennial High School and played in the U.S. National Team Development program, collected four goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 38 games last season. He played for the U.S. under-20 national team in the World Junior championships in the Czech Republic at mid-season.

The Gophers open their season with an exhibition game on Fri., Oct. 10 against the University of British Columbia at 7 p.m. at Mariucci Arena. The regular season begins the following weekend with a home-and-home series against St. Cloud State.
